Arlington National Cemetery houses around 400,000 veterans and counting! You will not believe your eyes when you see this place. Row upon row upon row of grave stones decorate the six hundred thirty-nine acre lawn. You can spend all day here if needed! There are many different sections of the military as well as famous people, such as John & Jacqueline Kennedy.
Yesterday, the trip with my family to Arlington, was a sweet reminder. My husband, Kevin, and I live about forty minutes from D.C. What a privilege this is! The blessings, strength and freedom we have, are truly passed down, because of sacrifice. We are a blessed nation! It is not because of us, but because of men and women lying here and many other places around the world. We are indebted to them!
It’s so hard not to shed a tear or many here in Arlington! There is a “new section” dedicated to the most recent fallen soldiers. It is here, you will see many families and friends gathered around a grave. They humbly morn the loss of their loved one or comrade. Some walk around and salute certain graves. Many families bring their lawn chairs and camp out for the day. Doesn’t matter if it is rain or shine for them! I can’t help, but walk by and grieve with them in my heart.
Flowers are donated in abundance from many different sources. Sometimes they come from different countries to say thanks to our fallen soldiers. This is a real treat to Arlington for Memorial Day! One of my favorite things to do is lay roses next to or on top of the grave stones. Usually, I grab as many flowers as I can carry! It’s hard not to head back to the flower stand for more. You can even volunteer that day to help out!
I’m so blessed and thankful for my freedom! I never want to take that for granted. Memorial Day is a special day to celebrate, remember and morn at the same time. Be glad someone took your place. Someone cared to keep America alive, well and free! Decorate their graves, it’s the least you and I can do. A Look Inside A Special Memorial Day Is A Time To Never Forget!
