Classy Cleaning Tips
Here We Go…
I know…I know…cleaning the whole entire house can easily and quickly become overwhelming! Doing a “spring cleaning purge” can be hard, because it’s easy to love stuff and let it take over!!
1. Start with one room at a time!
When Spring cleaning, Think one room a day or week! I once heard a saying, “more stuff equals = more responsibility!” That’s so true! The more we have, the more we have to take care of. The less we have, the less we have to take care of. Having stuff is not bad, it just comes with more responsibility.
Start in one room each day or week and go through everything! This means papers (even filed papers), books, boxes, clothes, shoes, hangers, etc. Purge whatever you don’t want! (I try to purge if not used in five years or more, especially if it’s not of value to me.) Place the stuff in a giveaway box or giant bag and set aside. Once you’re done with that room, move on to the next!
2. Start organizing your stuff!
Ok, so after you purge~start organizing your stuff! Feel free to purge and organize at the same time, if you prefer. By organizing, I mean get rid of the little “piles” of papers everywhere and file them. Fold winter clothes and store away and hang up spring clothes…maybe on new, updated, grip hangers. You get the idea!
I have the problem of finding time to do all of this! Prioritize by an “A, B, C” list. “A” is first priority~what needs to be done now or today as opposed to what can wait until later (“B” and “C”). Make a list to organize something each day. “It’s a cinch by the inch, but hard by the yard!” Work in baby steps first! Furthermore, you may have to work in baby steps the whole way. That’s ok if you’re making some daily progress. Keep it up!
3. Sell your unwanted items!
This could mean a Garage Sale, selling on Ebay, or even Facebook Marketplace! Personally, I love garage sales, you can really make some cash, and have others join in your sale to increase the flow of visitors. Also, community wide garage sales are great to join. Try selling your items before giving away! I always try to stick to this method first, if it works out. It’s the best way to get some cash back for what you bought.
If you’re limited on time, check out Facebook Marketplace (on your phone)! Pull up facebook and click on menu and then marketplace. Tap on sell and create listing. You snap a picture or two of the item you want to sell and post! Someone will message you if they’re interested and you’ll meet at a safe location. I never recommend meeting at your home (for security purposes). For example…I met someone at starbucks, one time. It can be anywhere! Just make the person feel comfortable with the location you choose.
4. Become more of a minimalist!
What is a minimalist? “You live a simple and uncluttered lifestyle.” I know this is not always easy or possible, but it’s something to consider. Again, think about how much stuff you have and do you even use it all? Is it just “in the way?” Are there cluttered piles here, there, and everywhere? More than likely, you need to purge!
The best way to become a minimalist is to have a goal in mind of what you want to accomplish that day! Next, write those goals down. You don’t have to get rid of everything! Just focus on things you haven’t used in five or more years and do they suit your style now? Just remember…more stuff equals = more responsibility.
5. Live Clean!
